Cassie and Phillip's first words were over a social media platform that we all know as Facebook. After Facebook, they first met in person at a campus visit at the U of MN Rochester. Cassie was working a booth for one of the clubs that she was in, and Phil showed up in his tour group. Eventually, Cassie gave Phillip her number (over FB) and continued to wait for a text from him. Almost a week later, they went on their first date. That marked the beginning of their relationship. "A relationship which has not only grown and developed throughout the years but has also proved its resilience in times of adversity." From how Phillip popped the question, to Cassie giving advice to future brides, check out our Q&A below and get a sneak peek into their wedding day! Details From Their Peacock-Themed Wedding Day Q. Tell us about your proposal story. A. Phillip and I went on a date on March 5th, 2017 to a paint night at Canvas and Chardonnay in Rochester. I was expecting it to happen soon, so I thought he would write something witty on the painting and do it there. When he didn’t, I was internally a little disappointed, and they went home as normal. At home, Phillip asked me to wait in the car. When he eventually brought me inside, in the middle of the bed, he had laid out a collection of things we had collected throughout the years—from movie tickets, to stuffed animals, to picture frames, and personalized kitchen utensils (plus many other things!). In the center of the pile, next to a candle, there was a ring box. Phillip said (probably paraphrased since I didn’t have a recorder handy): “These items are more than just things, they represent all the memories we have made together over the past 4 years. And this ring is more than just an accessory, it represents all the memories yet to come.” He then got down one knee and asked me to marry him, which was met with a resounding “yes!”. Q. What was your wedding theme? A. Modern with a bright peacock color scheme Q. How would you describe your wedding in 3 words? A. Giddy, Love, Happiness Q. What was the most memorable part of your wedding day? A. Definitely when my dad called Phillip his favorite son & he and my brother bantered. Reading our vows after the ceremony was another! Q. In a paragraph, tell us about your wedding day. A. It was a wonderful day. In the morning, the girls went to Buzz Salon to get our hair and makeup done (& have a quick mimosa!) in our customized robes in their dress colors. We then gallivanted around Northfield a bit taking pictures in the robes! After this, we headed to the church, where we got dressed and Phillip and I had our first look. Our first look was pretty magical and full of smiles—he looked so happy to see me & vice versa. We had lots of hugs and kisses, then took a few minutes to dance and take pictures! Then, the ceremony was started. It went perfectly and ended with a flawless dip first kiss. As we left, we released people from the aisles and hugged them to thank them for coming. My arms were sore, but my heart was so happy. From there, we went to Shattuck for pictures-- & I think we got some great ones! A couple of reception highlights were our first dance, which was choreographed by my bridesmaid and another friend, and our kissing rule: That we would only kiss if they demonstrated a kiss or sang a love song. We had a few of each, and they were always entertaining. Plus, my dad called Phillip his best son--- while my brother looked on and threw a laughable fit. We even snuck away to do some sunset pictures with just the two of us—it was fantastic. Q. What was the most challenging part of the wedding day? A. Figuring out the timeline and transportation—at one point my reception bag with my comfy shoes ended up at the hotel and my PA had to go get them! Q. What's one piece of advice you would want to give to future brides? A. Don’t sweat the small things—they make the best stories. We ordered lunch from Hogan Brothers and my hoagie was the only one missing—but I didn’t mind sharing. Also, remember that the day is about your love, not the tablecloths (or anything else!)
