Surrounded by family, friends, and beautiful weather, Kelly and Nate’s wedding day was more than they could have possibly imagined. From the gorgeous outdoor ceremony to the chic and simple decor, their purple and gold wedding was beyond picture-perfect! Lucky for us, Kelly dished some of the details about the big day, from how she picked her Kennedy Blue bridesmaid dresses to the wedding advice she wants you all to know! Details from Their Purple and Gold Wedding Day Q. How did you and Nate meet? A. We met through a mutual friend who, at the time, invited me to her place to watch the Steelers game with her and her boyfriend. When I walked in, there was another guy sitting in the living room. I immediately knew it was a surprise setup which I never expected to actually work, but after a few minutes of talking, I already knew Nate was an amazing guy. Needless to say, we hit it off that night and the rest is history. We've been best friends and completely in love ever since. Q. How did he pop the question? A. We went for a walk on a trail near our house at sunset with our new puppy, Lincoln. It was a beautiful day and unseasonably warm for early spring in Pittsburgh. We had taken our camera because we admittedly take too many photos of our dog. At a certain point on the trail, Nate stopped and suggested we use the timer on the camera to get a photo of all three of us. He positioned me with Lincoln and then went to setup the camera on a nearby bench. Once he was ready, he turned around to walk towards us and got down on one knee as the camera snapped several shots. Thanks to his gadgety genius, we now have a photo of the exact moment he proposed and the pure shock on my face. You can see the picture on our wedding website here in the "Our Story" section on kellyandnate.com. It was the sweetest surprise moment and most amazing proposal. Obviously, I said yes! Q. What's one fun fact about you and Nate as a couple? A. We got a puppy together after two years of dating (a good test to know we were marriage material!). He's a French Bulldog named Lincoln. He is awesome and has more Instagram followers than both of us combined. He even made a cameo in our engagement photos (also on our wedding website). Q. What was the most memorable part of the wedding day? A. The most memorable part was when I first saw Nate that day. We decided to do a first look before the ceremony and it was such a perfect moment and very emotional for both of us. The big day was finally here and we got to have this little moment all to ourselves before sharing our day with everyone around us. Q. What was the most challenging part of wedding planning and why? A. The guest list! It's so difficult deciding who to invite and not invite. Guest lists can easily get out of control and that was the hardest part for us. It caused the most stress because we wanted to make everyone happy, but we also had to remind ourselves that it was our day. Q. Why did you choose Kennedy Blue bridesmaid dresses for your girls? A. I was really looking for a solution that would allow my bridesmaids to choose different styles for their unique body types but also something that worked well with most of my ‘maids living in different states. I wanted to choose the fabric, length, and color of the dresses while giving my maids options for necklines. I stumbled upon Kennedy Blue’s bridesmaid dresses while browsing Pinterest and it was the solution I had been hoping for. The entire process was simple and easy. My girls really appreciated the flexibility to choose their own style. They also loved the convenience of being able to try the dresses on at home. When the dresses finally came in, we were thrilled with the color and the quality. Kennedy Blue was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. My bridesmaids all looked gorgeous and more importantly, felt truly comfortable with what they were wearing. Q. What advice would you give to other brides? 1. Try not to sweat the small stuff. It's easy to get overwhelmed with all the details, but try to think about whether all those details will really matter on the big day. And try not to over plan every minute of the day so you have time to really take it all in and enjoy it. 2. I would definitely recommend doing a "first look" for this very reason. I got to spend so much more time with my groom on our wedding day. Plus, doing all our photos before the ceremony allowed us to relax and enjoy the cocktail reception with our guests! 3. Plan your trial makeup session for the same day as your engagement photos. That way you get some use out of the trial makeup and look amazing for your pictures. It also allows you to see how the makeup photographs before the wedding in case you want to make any adjustments.
